Gothic Mommy Spotlight: Mindie Hagen

Interview with Mindie Hagen

Mindie Hagen, is a lovely Youtuber and Instagram model from Sweden. In this interview, Mindie tells us about her experience as a new Gothic Mommy!

Ariah: How old is your son and what is his name?
Mindie: He is now 3 weeks and his name is Todd Dawie.
Ariah: How did you decide on a name for your son?
Mindie: Actually he is named after the demon barber of Fleet Street, Sweeney Todd. It was my mother who suggested it at first, and since both my partner and I love Tim Burton we immediately decided to take my moms suggestion! And his second name, Dawie, stands for our close and dear friend Dave and of course for David Bowie.
Ariah: How did you first find out you were pregnant?
Mindie: My period was a day late and I immediately felt that something was different, so I asked my partner to buy a test, and it showed two lines. He was overjoyed and I was in panic, not because of the pregnancy itself, but because of the thought of being stuck in Germany without my family in Sweden with a baby. So we decided to move as soon as possible back to Sweden, and now we have been here 6 months.

Ariah: Who did you first tell about your being pregnant?
Mindie: I actually sent a Snapchat of the test to 3 of my closest friends, and told my mom the same day.
Ariah: Did you have a very easy pregnancy, or were there any complications?
Mindie: My pregnancy was totally fine until the last months where it got very painful; of course I was tired and felt ill in the beginning too, but I mean, what do you expect.

Ariah: Did you have any unique food cravings while you were pregnant?
Mindie: I had a huge craving for Swedish “knäckebröd”!
Ariah: Did you pick a theme for the baby's crib or nursery?
Mindie: No, we didn’t but we painted his stroller completely black and decorated it with cute little plushie bats!
Ariah: What was your experience with labor and delivery?        Mindie: My labor was a very traumatic experience; it lasted for about 70 hours and was extremely painful. I was desperate for something that would stop the pain so I took an epidural, but that just made everything worse. If I ever again have a baby, I will have a C-section.
Ariah: Do you have any tips for new or expecting mothers?
Mindie: Don’t worry too much and trust your instincts! I wish I had enjoyed my pregnancy more than I did, instead of enjoying I was worrying all the time.

Ariah: Is there anything else you would like to share about your motherhood experience thus far?
Mindie: Becoming pregnant and giving birth to my baby was the most crazy, painful and wonderful thing I ever did, and I would do it 100 times again for my son if I had too. I’ve never felt so complete and happy like I do now. I would sacrifice everything for my beautiful family.
